The goal is for everyone — including people with visual, motor, auditory, or cognitive impairments — to be able to use the website properly. This includes people who:
-
Use a screen reader (for example, due to blindness or low vision)
-
Have difficulty with complex navigation
-
Cannot use a mouse and rely solely on keyboard navigation
In the Netherlands, digital accessibility is legally required for government websites, but foundations and organizations with a social mission are increasingly expected to take accessibility seriously as well.

Last updated: 16 juni 2025
At Stichting DownSideUp, we believe that everyone should be able to access our information, events, and activities — including online. That’s why we do our best to make this website as user-friendly and accessible as possible, for all people, regardless of ability, age, or digital experience.
What does accessibility mean to us?
Accessibility means that visitors can:
-
Navigate and read the site easily, including with assistive tools like screen readers or keyboards
-
Understand the content without complex language
-
Use the site on various devices, such as a smartphone or tablet
-
Find information without barriers, even if processing takes a bit more time
What we’ve already done
While developing this website, we’ve taken care to:
-
Create a simple and clear menu structure
-
Use clear and descriptive button labels
-
Add alt-text to important images
-
Ensure contrast is readable in most cases
-
Write content in plain and accessible language
What we’re working to improve
We know that our website does not yet fully meet all WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards. We are currently working to improve:
-
Color contrasts in some areas
-
Screen reader accessibility of forms
-
Full keyboard navigation
-
Accessibility of the English version of the site
Our timeline
We aim to perform an accessibility review and implement lasting improvements before the end of [insert year, e.g. 2025].
